Psytrance Music Psytrance, also referrered to as Psychedelic trance, first broke out onto the mainstream in 1995 as the UK music press began to report on the exploding trend of Goa trance. It is a form of electronic music characterised by hypnotic arrangements of synthetic rhythms and mesmerising melodies through the use of general sounds other than percussion and pitched sounds. The creation of the music generally involves premade layered loops and preprogrammed melodies, and often involves a computer as a central mixing station. Psytrance producers mainly originate from the middle east especially from Israel although the music is most popular in the UK, Israel, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Germany, France, Italy and of course in Ireland and very commonly performed by djs at all-night parties playing music of different styles such as Goa, melodic, full on, dark, progressive and occasionally psybient, with fast beats ranging from 135 to 150 BPM. Goa Trance has roots stretching back to the 1961, when the Portuguese colony of Goa was forcibly annexed by India which still presents a hippie mecca today. Goa trance also called dance-trance originally assisted the dancers in experiencing a collective state of bodily transcendence, similar to that of ancient shamanic dancing rituals, through hypnotic, pulsing melodies and rhythms. Today's tracks focus on steadily building energy, using different percussion patterns, synth parts, breaks, indian and spiritual vocals aiming to build a hypnotic and intense feel for the dancers. Goa Trance parties began in Goa in the late 1980s most commonly on beaches or forests. These-days they are mainly spread around the world in different night clubs. Full on or melodic psytrance has many different synonyms such us morning full on trance, club psytrance and Isra-trance which firstly originated at the early 2000s in Israel. It has a connotation of uplifting trance, occasional electric guitar performances and usage of vocals. The expression “full on” derives from the first album ever released under Hom-mega Productions in 1998, titled Full On. Some might argue that the name comes from the Fullmoon festivals’ name or from a phrase describing high-energetic music. Dark Psytrance is also called killer psytrance, darkpsy, horrortrance or simply dark originated in Russia and Germany. However today it is known worldwide. Its melody is a darker, faster and more distorted form of psychedelic trance music, with the tempo between 145 to 165 BPM generally not using vocals, although taking samples and expressions from different kind of movies. Progressive trance inherits from its parent genre trance, a wider melodic flexibility, containing elements of house, techno, and ambient music. It's moving away from arpeggiated analog synth patterns that trance is known for, instead using unusual basslines or original synthesised sounds, which generally makes it more "catchy", featuring a lower average bpm between 128-138, a recurrent melodic structure, a slow and gradual build up and breakdown, and have a soft and ambient sound. Progressive trance's appeal is its deep sounds, subtle changes, and long progression; a feeling as if you are going through a journey into the music. Although Psytrance is not just music or an electronic composition, it has become a way of living around the globe in different societies and cultures. Every day it can be noticed that more and more people fall into psytrance, it opens the eyes of its lovers and makes them to love each other. Some people use it to evoke the cosmic spirit and communicate within the magical harmony; others appreciate more sound and visual values where various frequencies positively effect on different chakras and senses. Because of all those motivations we are very proud to be part of it. |
